400 musicians, 18 days, 24 hours a day: That’s what it took to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “Longest Concert by Multiple Artists” and they did it in a super Canadian way!

Hundreds of musicians gathered in small-town Stouffville, Ontario and began playing on March 17th at 7PM for 18 days straight. The multiple-day live show was meant to be a celebration of Canada’s 150th year of confederation, to set a new Guinness World Record, and help benefit one charity per day, including the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.

Once the 18th consecutive day of playing was complete, they would hold the possibility of taking the title of “Longest Concert by Multiple Artists”, stealing the record from our friends across the border. They would also accomplish the Longest Livestreamed Event in history! The title is still under review.

Ir order to break the record, here are some of the strict rules that had to be followed to pull it off:

  • Maximum five minutes between sets,
  • 30 seconds or less between songs
  • The same song cannot occur twice within a four hour period.
  • Songs must be two minutes+ in length
  • The same artist cannot take the stage twice in a one hour time period.

One of the organizers of the event posted the picture seen below, and said, “March 17th at 7pm we embarked on a 16 Day long, 24 hour/day concert to benefit 16 amazing charities and unite the community, as Canadians do, for our Country’s 150th birthday…I have so many feelings that I cannot put into words at this moment.”
