Mic Mac Mall is proud to offer Sensory Friendly Shopping in partnership with Autism Nova Scotia on the last Monday of the month from 6pm-9pm (unless otherwise noted). The next scheduled Sensory Friendly Shopping date will be:

April 29th May 27th June 24th July 29th August 26th

Lighting will be reduced in some areas, and music will be turned off in common areas of the mall. Sensory-friendly accommodations will also be at participating retailers.

Atlantic Burlesque Festival

Get out your boas, gloves, and fans! The inaugural Atlantic Burlesque Festival is set for May 17th – 18th, 2024 in Halifax!

The Atlantic Burlesque Co-operative in partnership with Neptune Theatre will be presenting this exciting festival on Neptune Theatre’s Scotiabank Studio Stage for two nights of stunning showcases featuring performers from across Canada, as well as other events such as community mixers, workshops and panels.

Headlining the Atlantic Burlesque Festival are Canadian Icon and Burlesque Legend Judith Stein and Montreal Draglesque powerhouse Miami Minx.

Burlesque has a deep and vibrant history in Halifax, so we are thrilled to launch this new annual event in this city. This new venture aims to shine a spotlight on the incredible talent of burlesque performers who are creating work and based in Atlantic Canada, while showing national artists that the Atlantic provinces are a performance destination.

HOT POT: An All-Asian Variety Showcase

HOT POT is an annual showcase that features an all-Asian cast with talents based in various performing art disciplines. The first showcase was created by Elle Lixir in May 2023 as a way to create a community with likeminded Asian diaspora artists and performers.

The next HOT POT Showcase is slated for Saturday, May 25th, 2024 at the Bus Stop Theatre (2203 Gottingen St, Halifax).

There are two chances to catch the show: the EARLY SHOW at 6-8pm, and the LATE SHOW at 9-11pm

Shay & MacKay Memorial Fishing Derby

Fishing season has started and just in time too

 

The Sambro Area Community Association is hosting the Shay & MacKay Memorial Fishing Derby

 

From 8am until 3pm there will be prizes for fish catches, a barbeque, 50/50 tickets, raffle draws, and even a kiddie fish pond.

Registration is also available at Mishoo’s store in Sambro as well as at Grand Lake the morning of the derby from 8-10 a.m.

James is on his way to an important presentation when his car breaks down just outside the town of Kooshog Lake. He soon meets the locals including Sienna, the owner of the town’s general store, Kirk, the owner of the garage, Rhonda, the flirty business owner, and Melanie, the local antique store owner. They convince James to take part in the annual fishing derby to catch Hollis McCauley, a fish that looks like a former local teacher.

The public are invited to join our artisans as they display and demonstrate their work, techniques, and inspirations at their studios and in local galleries in the beautiful and welcoming communities of Liverpool, Brooklyn, Moose Harbour, Port Medway, Beach Meadows, East Berlin, and Port Mouton, along the stunning Lighthouse route, and the Mersey and Medway rivers.

 

Galleries and studios that are open for viewing will be well marked with yellow balloons and flags. Admission to all studios is free, doors open at 10 and the show ends around 4!

 

A full listing of participants will be issued in early June but the current list includes 37 artisans!

Expect an unforgettable evening of storytelling at the inaugural “Story Slam” event, in partnership with Halifax Public Libraries, on Oct 29, 2024, at Paul O’Regan Hall, Halifax Central Library! ????? For this singular experience, curated storytellers will share their own true tales on the theme of “fear.” Through workshops with seasoned story editors, each presenter will be guided to refine their story for an exciting evening of storytelling.
