Reports have surfaced regarding a new jukebox musical movie featuring the music of Prince. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project, which has been in development since 2018, will see Black Panther director Ryan Coogler take on producing duties, with Bryan Edward Hill, known for his work on Titans and Ash vs. Evil Dead, penning the script.

Universal Pictures is set to distribute the film, although no details regarding a release date or casting have been disclosed at this time.

In addition to the movie, there are plans for an adaptation of Prince’s iconic 1985 film Purple Rain for the stage. Based on the original screenplay by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn, the stage musical will be produced by Orin Wolf, known for his Tony-winning work on The Band’s Visit.

Variety reports the producers’ statement expressing their excitement about bringing Purple Rain to the stage and honoring Prince’s legacy. They aim to introduce the beloved story to a new generation while rekindling the magic for fans of the original film and album.
